Climate and Soil

The station is geographically located at 13°N latitude and 75°E longitude at an elevation of 15m above MSL. The Station receives 3379 mm of average annual rainfall. The bulk part ie., 75% of which is received in the months of June, July and August. The mean maximum and minimum temperature of the location is 33°C and 23°C respectively. 

The soil is laterite soil which are deep (more than 2m) loams formed insitu by weathering of parent rocks and also by transportation of soils from hills and hill slopes during heavy rains. The process of laterisation is slow due to their positional advantage in the valleys. They contain moderate amount of organic matter. The reaction of the soil is acidic (pH 5.5 to 6.5).
